Erin Young is Flying High after New Reflections Weight-Loss Surgery!
130 pounds lighter nine years later!
“The weight came off amazingly fast. I lost an even 100 pounds my first year. It was life changing in an amazing way!” says Erin Young, a New Reflections patient from Las Vegas.
Erin came to Coast Plaza Doctors Hospital in Norwalk, California for gastric bypass surgery in March of 2000. When she checked into the hospital, she weighed 275 pounds. Two years later, she had dropped to 145 and that’s where she is today.
“I could probably force it to go lower but I eat pretty much what I’d like to eat, everything in moderation, and I don’t have to do anything dramatic to keep my weight where it is. My body is happy around 145 and that’s where it stays,” says Erin.
Erin says her weight problem started when she was a child, continued through her teen years and grew worse when she started having children. When she grew heavy, her weight prevented her from enjoying everyday life.
“It was horrible. I couldn’t play with my children. I didn’t want to go out with my friends. I didn’t want to be around my husband. I was unhappy,” she says.
When diets didn’t work, her sister realized Erin needed to try a different approach.
“She brought me to a New Reflections seminar in Las Vegas, sat me down and said, ‘You’re gonna sit and watch.’ And I did. She introduced me to the New Reflections staff and they were great. Then I saw all these fantastic patients and heard how wonderful they were doing after surgery and I sat there and I cried. I said, ‘I want to do that. I want to be happy.’ It was a quick decision,“ says Erin. “I wanted the surgery and I wanted it done by Dr. Martinez at New Reflections.”
Erin had her surgery nine years ago. Since then, her life has been a blur of non-stop motion!
“I do everything. I’m active. I play with my kids. I take walks. I’m more active now than I think I ever have been. Life is great!”
Erin says she made the right decision to have surgery. And she’s glad she had it with New Reflections.
“Dr. Martinez took time to talk with me, explain my options and answer my questions. And so did Jana Hanson, the rest of the New Reflections staff and everyone at Coast Plaza hospital. They made me feel welcome from the first time I met them and that feeling is still there today,” she says.
What advice does Erin offer to people considering weight-loss surgery?
“These are the people to call. This is the place to go.”
Keep in mind that everyone is different; individual weight loss varies and all patients don't receive the same health benefits. The outcome of weight-loss surgery greatly depends on your determination to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle as well as your willingness to follow doctor's orders.
You'll have a much better sense of what to expect from weight-loss surgery if you come to one of our support group meetings and talk with our surgeon, our staff and our patients. Then you can make an informed decision on your next steps.
