Mary Skinner is a New Reflections Success Story!
"I feel fantastic. I can do anything. I can walk up stairs, I can walk for hours,
I run regularly, I work out at the gym, I can swim for probably an hour."
Mary Skinner will tell you that she isn't the same person she used to be. She had weight problems that began in childhood. Years later as an adult, her health began to suffer.
According to Mary, "I was on the road to adult onset diabetes, my blood pressure was high, I was tired all the time, I had swollen ankles, I was snoring at night and I couldn't find a dress large enough to wear to the Christmas party. Years of dieting didn't work so I wanted to find a final solution."
Mary made the decision to come to New Reflections. She had gastric bypass surgery and eighteen months later, she was one hundred fifty pounds lighter. Her heart palpitations stopped, her blood pressure is now under control, and she now has the energy to walk, run and swim.
"I feel fantastic. I can do anything. I can walk up stairs, I can walk for hours, I run regularly, I work out at the gym, I can swim for probably an hour."
She can also walk down the aisle! In July she married Ed Elder in Carmel, California and in September left for a belated honeymoon on Maui.
"Since I hadn't had the chance to be a'beautiful bride' before, and because I wanted this, my last wedding, to bevery special, I thought it might be fun to wear a real wedding dress. Thanks to Dr. Martinez, I really did feel like a princess. It was an amazing experience to try ona variety of beautiful gowns and they all fit!!! People were watching me try on the gowns at the bridal store, and they were all oohing and aahing, and I felt so special. The hardest part was making a decision of which one to buy (rather than just trying to find one that fit as was the case in my 'old life.') I will never be able to sufficiently thank Dr. Martinez forthe chance to be the 'swan' (rather than the ugly duckling!)"

Keep in mind that everyone is different; individual weight loss varies and all patients don't receive the same health benefits. The outcome of weight-loss surgery greatly depends on your determination to follow a healthy diet and lifestyle as well as your willingness to follow doctor's orders.
You'll have a much better sense of what to expect from weight-loss surgery if you come to one of our support group meetings and talk with our surgeon, our staff and our patients. Then you can make an informed decision on your next steps.
